HISTORY

Kehtna Manor (Kechtel) was first mentioned in 1470, when it belonged to Arndt von Vietinghof. Among the manor's former owners, the most famous names are Swedish military commander Pontus de la Gardie and Count Alexander Bencendorff, who built Keila-Joa Castle. By 1874, Kehtna was already one of the larger manors in Rapla Parish. Under Otto von Lilienfeld's direction, the manor house in early classical style received a modern neo-Renaissance appearance in the 1880s, which was emphasized by the second floor's arch windows and a low roof with cornice balustrade. During the historic 1905 uprising, Kehtna Manor also suffered damage from fire. Under the direction of Otto von Lilienfeld's son Helmuth, the manor house was rebuilt between 1906–1910 even more grandly and modernly, achieving the raised hip roof volume and appearance that have survived to the present day.

Kehtna Manor is located only approximately 60 km from Tallinn's city center, and it is 11 km to Rapla, the center of Rapla County.

The manor is visible from the road, and an asphalt-paved road leads to it.

The manor is surrounded by approximately 10 hectares of Kehtna Manor park, which is under nature protection.

Kehtna Manor park is famous for the tradition that all presidents of the Estonian Republic have planted their namesake oak trees there.
