Towers Square got its name from the many towers of the city wall along it. In the Middle Ages, the place belonged to the Cistercian nunnery that was then located in the buildings of the current Gustav Adolf Gymnasium.

In 1936, Tower Square received a fountain with the beautiful sculpture “Woman with a Basin” (also “At the Well”) by sculptor Juhan Raudsepa. In the late 1930s, Tower Square was one of Tallinn’s most noble functionalist-style green spaces in terms of its species richness and abundance of flowers.

Today, the then flower-rich green space has grown into a shady park with a well-maintained stand of trees, which has been taken under nature conservation.
