Oldermann Falck built a new road from Toompea to the beginning of Paldiski highway in just one month and Falgi road was opened to traffic in autumn 1856.
In 1876, Eugen Erbe purchased the plot at the corner of Toompuiestee and Falgi road from the city.
A representative wooden building was built in 1881 on the orders of merchant Blumwerk. The building's architect was the Baltic German Rudolf-Otto von Knüpffer (1831-****), who studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts School of Architecture and became one of the 19th century's most important architects working in Estonia – his works include, among others, Haapsalu Spa, the old main building of the Baltic Station, the building of the Tallinn Russian Cultural Society (current Tallinn Central Library at Estonia pst 8) and many other buildings in various Estonian cities.
The corner building at Toompuiestee 18 / Falgi tee 6, similar to the modern representative corner solution at the time, was also designed in 1881 by him for Demin's department store at the corner of Viru street and Vene street. From 1852 until his death, Knüpffer worked in Tallinn at the provincial building office in various positions. Knüpffer's designs are all in an academic style, very beautifully and finely drawn and elaborated, just as architects were taught to design at the time. The merchant Blumwerk's residence also has an elaborate, representative facade with rich wooden decoration. In the original design, a typical floor plan is presented showing that there are separate apartments on each floor, but they are connected by internal stairs. The more representative side of the facade with the main entrance is located on the Falgi road side, while the Toompea side has a veranda overlooking the garden. The kitchen side faces north.
In 1907 the building passed to the heirs of the merchant, in 1920 Gustav Pihlakas acquired it, in 1930 the building was purchased at auction by Pikalaenu Bank. During the Soviet period the building was nationalized, in the late 1990s the building was reconstructed into offices, after which it stood unused for years. In 2016-**** the building was restored and converted back into an apartment building according to the OÜ Majaprojekt project.
The apartment building is located at the intersection of Toompea, Kelmiküla and Kassisaba districts, in an area with very good infrastructure and parks.
Nearby are schools, kindergarten, public transport stops, shops and other daily necessities.
In the immediate vicinity of the building there are 3 parks – Snelli Park, Hirvepark and Falgi Park – where you can do sports and spend quality time with children on playgrounds.
Falgi road is located in the old town area, bordered to the south by Hirvepark, and to the east is Toompea Castle, where the blue-black-white tricolor is hoisted every sunrise.
Nearby, spa, restaurants, cafes.
