Project introduction
Nurme 6, Keila
A new clean-energy home in the tranquil town of Keila
Location
With the pace of life being what it is today, time is one of the most precious commodities we have.
In charming Keila, just half an hour from Tallinn, you’ll find the balance you’re looking for between the bright lights of the big city and the peace and quiet of small-town living. Steeped in history, the verdant town of Keila is situated in Harju County and is well connected to the capital.
YIT’s Nurme development will be a place where modernity and small-town charm form a harmonious whole.
Sustainability
The first of the development’s buildings to be completed will be Nurme 6. This elegant four-storey complex will feature one- to four-room apartments ranging in size from 34-76.5 m2.
The keyword for the development as a whole is ‘sustainability’.
The ecologically sustainable solution devised for the Nurme 6 building, which has an energy rating of A, will be friendly not only to the environment but also to your hip pocket.
The heating energy the building needs will be drawn directly from the ground itself via vertical boreholes, which in combination with its water-based underfloor heating solution will keep the apartments at the perfect temperature year-round. Solar panels on the roof will also keep general electricity costs low. Water, power and heating costs will be calculated on the basis of remotely read meters in each apartment. Triple-glazed windows reaching all the way to the floor will fill your new home with natural light, while environmentally friendly heat-recovery ventilation will guarantee fresh, clean air at all times.
Exterior
The contemporary look of the Nurme 6 building was devised by architect Tormi Sooväli. The facade combines timeless, maintenance-free concrete with timber boarding tastefully matched to the verdant surroundings. This is offset by balconies with glass balustrades which can be fully enclosed in line with the architect’s plans should the owner wish to do so.
The building’s spacious and light-filled stairwell comes with a lift. The 1st floor features an open car park which, surrounded by a timber framework, forms an elegant whole with the rest of the building.
Bicycle parking
People who lead active lifestyles will be delighted to discover that the Nurme 6 building has its own dedicated bicycle parking structure, which will come with a colourful landscaped roof. This will make it easy for residents to go about their everyday activities on two wheels. There will also be spaces in the courtyard for visitors to securely park their bikes.
An ecological architectural solution
The buildings in the Nurme development were designed by architect Tormi Sooväli.
The exterior of the building makes exclusive use of long-lasting, reusable materials like painted concrete, glass and timber.
In terms of colour it maintains a minimalist palette so as to allow the natural colours of the surroundings to come to the fore.
The exterior walls on the car park level will be covered in timber panels in a natural tone, as will the rear walls of the balconies.
Landscaping
The outdoor areas of the development were designed by landscape architect Piret Kümmel. The landscaping solution was inspired by the cosy, small-town feel of the area and will feature fruiting trees and bushes as well as other plants known for the beauty of their scents and blossoms. These will include apple, plum and cherry trees, mountain ash, lilac, cinquefoil, elder, jasmine, barberry, juniper, blackcurrant and gooseberry.
The majority of the existing elm, oak, maple, birch, linden, aspen and fir trees on the Nurme 6, 4 and 2 properties are to be retained.
Nesting boxes for small birds will be affixed to them, and a bird feeder house will be installed under the birch trees on the Nurme 2 property in due course. The roof of the bicycle parking structure will be overlaid with stonecrop matting.
