What Fabric to Choose for Your Sofa or Armchair if You Have a Pet at Home
They say that a dog is a man's best friend and often it is so. Nowadays there are few households that don't have either a dog, cat, or some other pet. When choosing a sofa or armchair, you should also take into account these lovely characters.
For households with pets, velvet fabric is a sure bet.
We are often asked what fabric to choose if there are pets in the family. Our one and certain answer is that if it is at all possible for the client, velvet fabric should be preferred. First, velvet is easy to clean, and second, in most cases the structure of velvet fabric is such that animals do not want to start scratching it and instead enjoy lounging on the sofa (there are certainly exceptions). The downside of velvet fabric is the so-called magnetic effect, in that it picks up animal hair very well, but at the same time, hair comes off velvet fabric easily with simple hand movements.
There are people who don't tolerate velvet, and for those cases we shouldn't give up and will certainly find a suitable solution.
We dare say that velvet is the best option. However, if a person doesn't tolerate velvet, there are other alternatives. There are also fabrics that work very well with pets. If you have to choose a fabric, it would be important to ensure that the fabric is not too woolly or soft. Such fabric picks up cat or dog hair very well and it is a hassle to get them off.
Fabrics with a tight weave work well, which have a slightly stiffer structure. Leather also works well for pets, as it is very easy to clean. However, leather furniture can be most easily damaged, for example by a dog's claws.
Choose a color similar to your pet's hair
If you like light tones, then before you start looking at this type of fabric, think about what your sofa will look like when your dark-haired dog or cat has been lounging on it. We recommend choosing a shade that matches your pet's hair color. However, if you think that soft furniture with hair won't bother you, then choose exactly the shade that your heart desires.
Use natural sprays
In case your pet still wants to sharpen their claws against soft furniture, there are sprays that repel them. We recommend using 100% natural sprays, not chemical ones. Chemical ones are certainly more effective, but can damage the fabric surface and leave a strong and unpleasant smell on the fabric.
In summary
Velvet fabric is the best choice for households with pets, but there is also fabric and leather that works almost just as well. It is important to follow the points listed above and if you have questions, please be sure to contact our customer support. We are happy to help you!
