Construction of Tapa Sports and Leisure Center Moves Forward – Design Work Begins
This week, AquaTapa OÜ, managed by Capital Mill, and AS Merko Ehitus Eesti concluded a construction contract under which the design of a new sports and leisure center in Tapa will be initiated.
The total area of the center's property is 18,676 m² and it is located at Spordi Street 8. The start of construction work is planned for May 2026, and its duration is estimated at approximately 14 months.
According to Marek Hergauk, head of Merko Ehitus Eesti's general construction division, preparatory work has been completed with the client to launch the design work. "During the further design phase, the technical solutions and details of the sports and leisure center will be clarified to the extent necessary before construction work. We understand the long wait of local residents and the military units and allied forces serving in Tapa for a swimming pool, and we are moving forward with the design at a rapid pace so that construction work can begin as soon as possible," said Hergauk.
Silver Neemelo, head of the construction sector at Capital Mill OÜ, emphasized that the project symbolizes the company's desire to contribute to regional development. "The Tapa sports and leisure center project is an important step in developing the region's infrastructure and a good example of successful cooperation between the public and private sectors," said Silver Neemelo, head of the construction sector at Capital Mill OÜ. "Our goal is to ensure that the center is completed with quality, time-efficiently, and meets high technical and environmental requirements."
According to Maksim Butšenkov, chairman of Tapa municipal council, the signing of the contract is a major step forward. "Every day brings us closer to our goal – the completion of the recreational and sports center. I am confident that the cooperation of two strong companies will produce good results and ensure quality. Our goal is not simply to build a building, but to create a place where it is pleasant and safe to be. The center will be a place where people meet, socialize, and feel at home," said Butšenkov.
The completed sports and leisure center will offer modern sports and recreation facilities in Tapa. The center is planned to include an eight-lane swimming pool with a children's pool, a spa and sauna center, a gym, and a food service area with a sports bar. The architectural solution of the building was created to emphasize connection to nature and community spirit, offering a modern, energy-efficient, and functional environment suitable for training, relaxation, as well as community events. The building architect is Hannes Koppel from the architecture firm Asum Architects.
