A study shows that Estonian people pay great attention to the quality of living environment when choosing a home. In addition to reasonable housing costs, proximity to nature and green areas as well as the safety of the area are considered important.

"Compared to Latvians and Lithuanians, Estonians value the presence of a garden and access to nature more. It is also considered important in Estonia that the home supports different lifestyles and meets needs in a longer perspective," added a Bonava representative.

The main reasons why Estonians consider moving at all are the desire to get more living space and to live in a more pleasant home. According to 51% and 48% of respondents respectively, these were the main moving motivations. Compared to Latvians and Lithuanians, work- and school-related reasons and the desire to own a garden influence Estonians' moving decisions more.

Meanwhile, only 12% of Estonian respondents want to change their home in order to reduce housing costs.

"Home is increasingly seen as part of a wider living environment that must support both working, relaxation and everyday well-being. People are no longer looking for just a quality apartment, but for a neighborhood where it is good to live outside the home walls as well," said Laanoja.
