Are you tired of your old living room and would like to bring some freshness into it quickly and effortlessly? It's possible. You don't need to do any major renovations. It's enough to change a few things and your living room will look like new.

Rearrange your furniture

This trick won't cost you more than a few hours of your valuable time and well, maybe a couple of heated discussions with your housemate, but trust us, afterwards you'll both be happier.

Yes, we believe that things are best just as they are now, but think for a moment about how it would be if the sofa was on a completely different wall. Or if the TV wasn't in the corner? Maybe it makes sense to arrange the sofa and armchairs facing each other so you can have nice conversations with family members and guests? Try it next weekend. If you don't like it at all, you can always move all the cabinets and bedside tables back to their places.

Paint your floor

If you have a painted floor, it's incredibly easy to paint it over. It's a weekend's work and it's not expensive at all. How does black sound, for example? If you have light furniture and walls, go ahead and try it. If this idea sounds tempting but you're a bit scared, then google "black floor living room" and you'll see how cool things have been done.

Of course, besides black there are other cool colors, you just need a little imagination.

Paint one wall

Painting one wall (or why not two) is also a weekend's work, but think how nice it is to come home from work on Monday and step into your new living room! One wall doesn't require so much paint that it would blow your budget, and even if your first choice doesn't work out, buying a new batch isn't overly expensive.

Organize your shelves

Take everything off your shelves – knick-knacks, books and piles of magazines – and look at them carefully. How many of those old interior design magazines do you actually look at? Do you even like all those knick-knacks or are half of them gifts from Aunt Malle and you haven't dared to donate them? Gather your courage and put on the shelves only those things that you really like and that go well together.

Maybe you have some small photos in a drawer that would fit nicely on a shelf and create a completely new atmosphere in the room?

Buy a new rug

The impact of a rug on the appearance of your living room is huge. Surf online shops, visit interior design stores and choose a new rug. It's very easy to give your living room a more modern look with trendy patterns.

Get a new sofa

A sofa is the focal point of the living room and replacing it immediately makes the room look new. You probably don't buy a new sofa every year, so consider the purchase carefully before making your final decision. Think about its dimensions, color, design, material and functionality. Do you want to just sit on it or perhaps also accommodate guests? Do you have small children or a pet? There are many circumstances to consider when choosing a sofa.

If a new sofa is exactly what your living room needs, but you don't have the necessary money to spare right now, we have some good advice for you. For such purchases – or why not for small renovations too – it's wise to use home improvement loan, because paying it back won't cause you problems, but you can start enjoying your new sofa right away.

Create a gallery wall

Have you seen cool gallery walls in interior design magazines or on Pinterest that people have on their walls, but you think you definitely can't put one together yourself?

Here are a few tips for you:

  1. Find photos, drawings, favorite postcards, your daughter's first dress, a mask brought back from a trip or whatever items you want to hang up.
  2. Try to find some common feature that connects them, such as color or theme.
  3. Add a couple of small interesting framed mirrors to the gallery.
  4. In the center of the gallery you can also place a small shelf where you can place an item that can't be hung.
  5. Play around with the arrangement until you're satisfied.

Paint a piece of furniture

If your living room has, for example, a bedside table that a little paint job won't hurt, then give it a try.

Good old textile swap

A safe bet is to change your curtains, pillows and covers. It's not complicated or particularly expensive, but it gives your room a new look in a flash. On your way out of the curtain shop, pop into the garden center, buy a couple of new houseplants and your room will look brand new!
