Nõmmemäe neighbourhood's last apartment building received its cornerstone
Housing development company Bonava laid the cornerstone for the final apartment building in the Nõmmemäe neighborhood, located on the border of Mustamäe and Nõmme. The eight-story building at address Mäepealse 9/3 will be completed by the end of 2027 with 46 new homes. This marks the completion of the development of a nature-oriented neighborhood consisting of three buildings and a total of 138 homes.
The final building of the development is located in the southern part of the property, near a landscape protection area, where residents will have views of green spaces.
„Nõmmemäe is a special place where the city and nature come together. Everything needed for daily life is nearby, and at the same time, forest trails and opportunities for active recreation begin almost from the doorstep of home. Today's cornerstone ceremony is meaningful to us because this is the final phase of our development. We are approaching the moment when our entire planned neighborhood is complete and 138 families will find their home here," said Klaus Treimann, construction manager at Bonava.
The first phase of Nõmmemäe with two buildings containing 92 homes in total will be completed in December 2026. With the construction of the final building, the neighborhood's shared living environment will also take its complete form, with design attention paid to nature, mobility options, and interaction among residents.
The common courtyard of the residential buildings will feature play and recreation areas, an outdoor office, and a community garden with a greenhouse. Residents will also have access to a shared sports room and a bicycle and dog washing facility. The landscaping will include plants that support biodiversity and rainwater collection solutions that allow water to be used for watering plants.
Laying a cornerstone is a long-standing tradition in construction, intended to bring strength and durability to the building being erected. Following tradition, Bonava places items of symbolic significance in the cornerstone time capsule, carrying good wishes for the future homes and their residents. In this case, the time capsule contained a fresh newspaper, bread, a piece of coal, rowan berries, and the construction manager's business card – each with its own special meaning.
The final building in Nõmmemäe will feature one- to four-room energy class A homes ranging from 31.5–77.9 square meters. All apartments have a balcony or terrace, and parking and storage spaces are located on the first and underground floors of the building.
