Newly Opened New Veerenni Paddle Center Offers Free Playtime for Children
An outdoor paddle tennis center has started operations in the Uus-Veerenni residential quarter, and a new artwork created by Heigo Jelle now welcomes those entering the quarter. The existing public areas of Uus-Veerenni – the park, sculpture alley, gym, and movement areas – have now received an addition that offers both movement enjoyment and food for thought.
The paddle courts built at Pille 21 offer movement joy to both serious players and those who want to get acquainted with the sport or spend quality time with friends. The outdoor paddle center, designed for quarter residents and the general public, has four courts. The daily management of the center is handled by the paddle club Padelsquare, and playing time can be booked through the Playtomic application.
„For paddle enthusiasts, the location of the court is very important; in most cases, the choice falls on a center located near home or work. Since Uus-Veerenni has grown very rapidly, building courts there was quite a logical step. In addition, our wish was that these would not simply be courts where you play, but a beautiful and complete environment. I believe that what we have created together with Merko was well worth the wait. The first impressions and feedback have been very positive, and we hope that the Uus-Veerenni community will quickly embrace the center," said Mats Tamme, one of the leaders of Padelsquare.
The fully automated courts are open daily from 7 AM to 11 PM. The facility features changing rooms, a landscaped rest area, and the possibility to rent rackets. Training sessions for beginners, regular practices, and tournaments will also take place in Uus-Veerenni, encouraging those interested to try a new sport and providing an opportunity to spend active time together.
Additionally, Merko and Padelsquare have launched an initiative through which children's training groups can use the courts free of charge on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 AM to 12 PM. The goal is to bring together children and coaches and offer them the opportunity to exercise together. The prerequisite for free training is the presence of a coach and a pre-planned training schedule, with the schedule to be coordinated at [email protected].
„Encouraging people to exercise is very important to Merko. We invest in Estonian Health Trails so that as many people as possible have the opportunity to exercise for their health near their homes. Free playing time at Uus-Veerenni gives children the opportunity to develop and establish healthy lifestyle habits during the summer by engaging in paddle tennis," said Taavi Kotkas, development director of the Uus-Veerenni residential quarter.
Art in urban space is another important value for Merko. Next to the building at Pille 4/1, there is now a sculpture called „Pure Love" created by artist Heigo Jelle, which adds personality, character, and one and a half tons of love to the Uus-Veerenni quarter.
„It is not simply for beauty – the sculpture was created to make us stop for a moment, think, and smile. It can be interpreted as a lesson that in right and pleasant communication we give what we have to give and receive what we need – in this case, one person gets a full stomach, another gets rid of parasites, and perhaps someone else receives something good or useful," said Heigo Jelle, the author of the artwork.
The new sculpture complements the quarter's earlier artworks – the sculpture group „Toys" by Jass Kaselaane located in the Uus-Veerenni park and the work „Fly Agaric Man" by Heigo Jelle situated between residential buildings.
Uus-Veerenni is a residential quarter developed and built by Merko. To date, 38 buildings have been completed in the quarter and nearly 500 families live in them. The next residential building in Uus-Veerenni will be completed in the summer of 2026. You can get acquainted with the homes in the Uus-Veerenni quarter at merko.ee/uus-veerenni.
