Makita's New Office and Warehouse Building Gets Its Power From 2000 Solar Panels
In Saue municipality at Gate Tallinn industrial park, power tool manufacturer Makita laid the cornerstone for its new office and warehouse building, which will receive its electricity from more than 2000 solar panels to be installed on the roof and surroundings of the building with a net area of approximately 25,000 square meters.
Japanese-origin Makita is making its largest investment in the Northern and Baltic regions to date, totaling 24 million euros, to build a facility meeting A-energy class requirements. The new office and warehouse building will be constructed by YIT Eesti.
"Makita deserves great recognition for investing not only in achieving the best functionality and comfortable planning of the building, but also in achieving the smallest possible environmental footprint. The solar park with a total capacity of 1000kW covers all the building's energy consumption according to current data. The excess capacity will be directed to the power grid to supply clean energy to other companies operating at Gate Tallinn," said Reimo Ehrstein, head of YIT Eesti's construction division.
According to Ehrstein, Makita's new office and warehouse building is a large-scale project offering multiple novel experiences. The construction of the building will use approximately 10,000 cubic meters of concrete in total, about 500 tons or more than 20 truckloads of steel structures, and approximately 2,800 piles that form a total length of 19 kilometers.
The two-story building with a net area of approximately 25,000 square meters allows Makita, which previously rented warehouse space at various locations, to consolidate all its operations in one location.
"Thanks to significantly larger warehouse space, we can offer fast delivery of goods to resellers and provide professional support to end users in the spacious repair and maintenance center facilities," said Seiji Tanizawa, managing director of Makita OY Estonia branch, expressing satisfaction with the innovations.
According to him, the new building will feature, in addition to office spaces and warehouse, a display showroom showcasing the entire product portfolio and a training center, where as an important innovation, end users of Makita tools will be trained in the future alongside resellers. The building will have test rooms for testing concrete, wood and metal tools, and additionally an outdoor test area will be set up where garden tools can be tested.
The cornerstone laying ceremony was attended by Makita OY Estonia sales director Imre Rammul, Makita Corporation Europe head Hiroshi Tsujimura, Japanese Ambassador Yukihiko Matsumura, Saue municipality mayor Andres Laisk, YIT Eesti board member Margus Põim, and Priit Kõrgesaar, representative of Tallmac Tehnika, Makita's longest-serving product reseller.
Construction work began in January 2022 and the project is scheduled to be completed in April 2023.
