Look at photos: One of Estonia's most distinctive industrial architecture objects came on sale for 2.5 million euros

In Turba town in Harjumaa, the Ellamaa power plant complex, completed in 1923 and protected as a state cultural monument, is for sale for 2.5 million euros. The world's largest motorsports museum, MOMU, operated there from 2017 to 2025.

Before the Motorsports Museum was established, the power plant building, which had been standing empty and deteriorating for years, was renovated and adapted into a museum and event center. "Ellamaa power plant is a very special object, into which MOMU founder Arno Sillat has invested considerable time, energy, and work in its expensive restoration. Although MOMU operations have ended and the exhibits have been removed from the building, the unique industrial architecture and very well-maintained building remain, with great potential," says 1Partner Commercial Real Estate consultant Ivo Jaama.

Ellamaa power plant was designed by architect Aleksandr Wladovsky. The plant began operating in 1923 and worked until the 1960s, being Estonia's first major power plant from which long-distance high-voltage lines were laid. During the renovation of the power plant, in addition to preserving historical details, the building's structures and technical systems were updated. Historical roof windows and the façade have been restored, and the original ceramic and mosaic tile floors have been preserved and restored. From the former power plant era, a bridge crane and old turbine have been renovated and displayed in the turbine hall. At the same time, heating, ventilation, and fire safety systems have been upgraded, and accessibility solutions have been implemented.

According to 1Partner's consultant, the building's next use does not necessarily have to be related to a museum. "The large spaces, high ceilings, numerous additional rooms, and historical industrial architecture create many exciting opportunities for how to give the complex new life. The building would be suitable, for example, for film production or for technology and robotics companies, but also for organizing concerts and other events. Unrenovated spaces can also be built into offices or apartments," Jaama explains.

For sale is the entire complex of buildings located on five properties, totaling 10,593 square meters. In addition to the power plant's main building, the complex includes a network weaving workshop commissioned in 1933 and a workshop built in 1936, as well as a greenhouse and a large chimney. The property also features a park with classical design inspired by motorsports history, complete with a fountain, footpaths, seating areas, and a memorial corner. Turba railway station is located a few minutes from the former power plant.
