Livonia's New World Development Laid Cornerstone
Real estate developer Liven and construction contractor Bildgren Ehitus laid the cornerstone and time capsule for the Virmalne apartment building. The new four-story building with 28 apartments will have its first homes ready by the end of this year.
"The Virmalne homes cornerstone is of symbolic significance for Liven. By now, we have built over 800 homes and more than 1,400 new homes are under construction, but for the first time we laid a cornerstone for a downtown development and this together with our new construction partner, Bildgren Ehitus," said Andero Laur, CEO and partner of Liven AS.
"Bildgren Ehitus has a tradition of creating a special time capsule for the cornerstone, and this time we stored a newspaper for future discovery, some coins, a piece of bread and charcoal in it. According to tradition, we also added a metal business card with our construction engineers' names engraved on it to the time capsule," said Urmas Kaasik, member of the board of Bildgren Ehitus, the main contractor for the Virmalne development.
The first homes of the Virmalne apartment building rising in Tallinn's city center, in the Uus Maailm district, will be ready by the end of this year. Virmalne is designed to be child- and family-friendly, with garden space surrounding the building and high and low vegetation. The homes are enhanced by 3-meter ceilings and 2.6-meter-high windows, and each home has at least a 10-square-meter balcony or terrace, some also with their own courtyard area.
In total, the Virmalne development will build 28 new 2-4 room homes. Parking is mainly solved with an underground garage, where bike storage and a shelter will also be built, plus bike storage spaces and a separate bike house in the courtyard. Near the future homes are several educational and official institutions, including Tallinn University of Applied Sciences, Tõnismäe Gymnasium, MUBA and Superministry.
