The lavender season is coming soon to Hiiumaa, and the Lavender Farm is in the final stages of preparation for the most beautiful time of the upcoming summer. On June 27th, the gates will open to visitors again, and at the same time, the search continues for new family – people who would like to take the place created with heart to its next stage of development.

According to Lavender Farm creators Birthe and Taavi Liivandi, the reason for the sale is not that the place doesn't work, but quite the opposite – the farm holds more potential than they themselves are currently able to realize.

"We're not just looking for a buyer, but for someone who would want to develop this story further," says Taavi. "Lavender Farm has never been just a business for us. It's a place where a lot of time, work, and heart have been invested."

The flowering season will be even more powerful than ever this year

Although the farm is for sale, life there hasn't stopped for a moment. The last few months have been spent actively preparing for the new season. To improve visitor comfort, the parking lot is being expanded, and in mid-June, a new lavender field will be created, where six completely new varieties of lavender will be planted.

"We want people who come here to feel like they can take a break," says Taavi. "Lavender Farm is not a place to just rush through. We want people to stay here a bit longer."

The current lavender field is approximately 0.8 hectares in size, and after the new field is created, the total lavender area will grow to about 1.3 hectares. Among the new varieties are lavenders with silver leaves and white and pink flowers, which will make the fields visually even more special.

New flavors will be a surprise, and "furry summer guests" are arriving at the farm

"Summer is busy, but our winter on the farm was also active. In addition to season preparations, we invested actively in product development and will surprise lavender enthusiasts with new flavors," says Taavi. So this year, in addition to the already familiar lavender lemonade, visitors will get lavender beer and lavender lemonade, which can be enjoyed on site or purchased to take home.

At the same time, the farm's courtyard area and relaxation facilities are being further developed to provide visitors with an even more pleasant and longer experience. As in previous years, guests will be able to meet this summer with Lavender Farm's annual "summer guests" – sheep and rabbits that move to the farm for the summer.

In addition to lavender fields, the farm includes animals, picnic facilities, a children's area, and a small cafe.

Sale continues, but decisions are not made in haste or haphazardly

According to Taavi, the farm sale has not yet taken place and a suitable new owner is being sought in a calm and thoughtful manner.

"We are not in a situation where we would need to sell quickly," he says. "If we don't find the right person, we will continue ourselves or find an operator for the season. The most important thing is that the spirit and quality of this place is preserved."

In the Liivandis' view, Lavender Farm suits a person who sees value in a slower pace of life and appreciates the peace and seasonality of Hiiumaa. At the same time, the farm doesn't necessarily mean year-round residence at the location.

"An e-shop and the daily operations of the business can be run successfully from a distance. This could work very well for someone who wants to spend most of the time on the mainland, but spend summers in Hiiumaa," explains Taavi.

The owners plan to adjust the selling price somewhat during the summer to make the opportunity more flexible for interested parties.

A place where a fully functional business has already been created

Lavender Farm is not being sold merely as real estate. Along with the farm, a business – BY DAGÖ OÜ – is being transferred with the entire existing operating system: an e-shop, client database, business partners, resale agreements, processes, and know-how.

"You don't have to start from scratch on anything," says Taavi. "Everything that matters already exists and is working today."

Additionally, the current owners are not leaving the island – the Liivandis are staying in Hiiumaa and are ready to fully support new family members during the first year and pass on their experience and knowledge. According to the Liivandis, Lavender Farm has several possible development directions that they themselves haven't been able to realize due to lack of time.

Potential is seen in developing the tourism experience, natural products, organizing events, and creating an accommodation business.

A place that grew from overgrown land, where people don't want to leave

Lavender Farm started in 2018 during Estonia's 100th independence anniversary celebrations, when 20,000 lavender plants were planted with the help of friends. At that time, the property was overgrown with bushes and the old farmhouse needed thorough renovation.

"We did practically everything here with our own hands," recalls Taavi. "This place is sort of like our third child."

Over the years, what started as a production farm grew into much more. During the pandemic years, people visiting the island began stopping by the lavender fields, taking pictures, and discovering the farm. Gradually, the place transformed into a tourist destination where people come primarily for the emotional experience.

"This place is not meant for rushing," says Taavi. "There's something quite different here – silence, nature, and a feeling that for once you don't have to rush anywhere."
