A Well-Planned Wardrobe in the Hallway and Bedroom Saves Space and Keeps Things Organized

A wardrobe is an indispensable storage solution in the home, as it allows you to utilize existing space from floor to ceiling and conveniently and practically accommodate clothing, shoes, accessories, and all household items. Well-planned shelves and cabinets keep things organized and always in a specific place. Where should you start when choosing a wardrobe cabinet, what should you keep in mind, and how can you find the best solution for your family?

Lisanne Linamägi, a representative of Liuglev Uks, Estonia's largest wardrobe and sliding door seller, notes that wardrobes have come into our homes to stay: saving space and keeping rooms organized. "A functional wardrobe or walk-in closet is spacious, presentable, and keeps things organized. The cleverness of a custom-made wardrobe lies in the fact that space can be utilized from floor to ceiling, and each item can have its own shelf, basket, drawer, or hanging space."

She adds that the selection options for wardrobes are very broad. Alongside bedroom wardrobes, entryway wardrobes are equally popular, which in recent trends are often built partially open along with a bench, a mirror wall, or a peg wall. The most preferred solutions are wardrobes with hinged doors and hinges, sliding doors with smooth surfaces, or modern angular black mirror doors with aluminum frames.

With hinged doors, for example, the entire wardrobe can be opened at once – this is a major advantage if multiple people use the cabinet at the same time, as everyone can access the entire wardrobe simultaneously. Meanwhile, a sliding door wardrobe is perfect for tight spaces, as the doors move behind each other and don't take up extra space. Open wardrobes are also very popular because you can add closed drawers and hanging sections with LED lighting, and separate doors are not necessary. There are enormous possibilities!

Quality and sustainable solutions are becoming increasingly important

Wardrobes are manufactured to order, which means great attention is paid to details, measurements, and the wardrobe interior is assembled exactly according to the client's needs. "It is encouraging to note that the entire furniture industry and people are moving towards higher quality and more sustainable solutions year after year. People have realized that the cheapest product is indeed broken or worn out in a couple of years, and they still have to order a new one. And then on the second round, a firm choice is usually made in favor of a lasting solution," says Linamägi. "Liuglev Uks's keywords have always been quality and functionality – a cabinet must be long-lasting and accommodate everything the client wants.

With ready-made cabinets, the problem is usually that an unused dust-collecting area remains under the ceiling or near the wall, or the interior layout is incomplete and doesn't hold enough. Not to mention the problem that side walls are often drilled full of holes, the melamine quality used as material cannot withstand criticism (the material doesn't have sufficient density or partially paper content has been used), and the edge that is glued to the side of the board is either too thick for the given board or conversely too thin, poorly glued, or made of paper. There are many problem areas with ready-made furniture when the manufacturer's quality is unknown. Later, it is difficult to find someone who would redo the finished solution. This does not happen with our wardrobes. No one will need to replace the built-in wardrobe next year, as a reliable solution lasts for decades. Therefore, the result must be flawless."

Many people are ordering a wardrobe for the first time and need the help of experienced project managers. Together, needs and possibilities are discussed and the best solution is reached. It all depends on what the client needs the wardrobe for – overcoats, suits, sports equipment, bedding, suitcases, boxes, or household items? Sometimes one large wardrobe can hold everything and separate spaces behind doors are created for different items. It's worth telling project managers boldly about your thoughts and needs so that the result truly meets all your requirements.

When planning a wardrobe, Linamägi recommends first thinking about the location: is it in the bedroom, entryway, children's room, home office, or elsewhere in the room? Depending on this, you can choose an appropriate cabinet size and style. You also need to know how many people will use the wardrobe – everyone should have their own place to store items, as if you put all the family's hats, scarves, and gloves in one basket, chaos tends to ensue. Drawers and baskets have special dividers so you can group clothing and keep stored items organized. Things stacked simply on a shelf tend to get mixed up as well.

Once you know the wardrobe dimensions, you can think about furnishings and storage. Often, an entryway cabinet is made for seasonal clothing, and off-season clothes go to an additional cabinet or a higher shelf in vacuum bags or boxes. There is also a difference between children's and adult needs: in a children's wardrobe, the hanging section is smaller and more emphasis is placed on pull-out baskets, drawers, and shelves. An adult wardrobe consists mainly of a hanging area, an underwear and sock drawer, a couple of baskets, and special furniture suitable for both women and men (pants hangers, jewelry drawers, tie holders, drawer organizers), which holds more and helps keep clothing organized and the cabinet tidy.

When it comes to design, lighter beige, gray, and brown tones remain the most popular, and usually a wow effect is added to the cabinet with elegant, golden, black, or wood-curved handles.
