Isn't it true that a small kitchen owner thinks: oh, if only I had a big kitchen, everything would be in its place and everything would be super well organized. And at the same time, the owner of a big kitchen thinks: it would be nice if I had a small kitchen – then I wouldn't have to search for everything, everything would be within arm's reach.

Whether the kitchen is big or small, cabinets and drawers tend to get messy anyway.

To sort everything out and organize it in such a way that you don't have to do it again, we start by taking everything out of the cabinets and looking at it. If among them there is something you don't use, what is broken or what you simply don't like, then those things should not go back into the cabinet.

This work is big, but certainly worth the result.

Clean everything

Since all the things are now nicely taken out of the cabinet, it's a good opportunity to thoroughly clean the cabinets and drawers.

Divide cabinets and drawers according to use

For work in the kitchen to flow easily, all things need to be arranged according to their purpose or type. For example, put everyday items at eye level and less frequently used items higher up. Or put baking items in this drawer and storage containers and empty jars in that cabinet.

Organize the cleaning supplies cabinet

Take care of the cabinet where you keep dish soap, sponges, bottle brushes and similar items. Throw away old cleaning product bottles and worn brushes that you no longer use. If the cleaning cabinet is in good condition, you'll also be more willing to clean up.

For bottles with pumps, attach a towel rack to the cabinet wall or door and hang the bottles with handles on it.

Buy a special plastic bag holder

"Why do I need another gadget?" you ask. But because plastic bags would be in one place together and the whole family would know where to put them and where to get them from. Hopefully, the use of plastic bags will become increasingly unpopular, but as long as we have them in our household, they should have their place.

For example, we like this nice-looking plastic bag holder.

Baskets and boxes

If you have cabinets where things fall out every time you open the door, use boxes and baskets to store items. It also looks nice to the eye.

Group all smaller items according to their purpose and also put them in baskets. If necessary, use a label on the basket, so you can quickly find the item you need and don't have to turn all the baskets upside down.

Arrange dishes by color

Rearrange your dish cabinet and arrange the dishes according to color. Try it – everything immediately seems much more organized. Also, you'll find dishes easier this way and be able to put them back later.

Have a pull-out drawer made for stovetops

We got this idea once while browsing Pinterest and we've been thrilled about it ever since. Imagine that your stovetops and pans, cutting boards and dough bases – all those things are like papers in a document drawer standing next to each other. That's exactly what kind of pull-out drawer you can make for yourself or have a kitchen company install, and we assure you, your life will be much better right away.

Put all dry goods in transparent jars

Do you have pasta scattered across the bottom of your dry goods drawer? Maybe there's also some semolina and raisins there? If you keep dry goods in packages rather than in specially labeled containers, head to the home goods store. And don't buy jars that you can't see through. The best dry food containers are those where you can tell at a glance what's inside and whether your supplies need replenishing or not.

Make use of cabinet doors

Inside the cabinet doors you can create holders for pot lids, cutting boards, plate stands or other thin and flat items for which you otherwise have no proper place.

You can also attach a cork board to the inside of one door where you can keep frequently used recipes, shopping lists or even a message for your loved one.

A smart way to store wine glasses

Do you know how to fit more wine glasses on one shelf? Turn every other glass upside down, so you can use the space more efficiently.

Use wall space

Empty surfaces are of course very beautiful and they can't get messy anyway, but if you're tight on space, keep knives on a magnet above the work surface, attach a spice rack to the wall or small pots with herbs.

Hang things up

If you have plenty of free space and your pans look nice, hang them up – then you won't have to search for them in the depths of the cabinet.

Use drawer dividers

The only way to avoid mess in drawers is to use dividers. Forks and knives, scissors and chopstick holders – everything should have its own spot.

And the kitchen is organized! If something was left over, take another look at it. Do you really need it?
