Do you know why we waited for summer? Yes, it was certainly for the warm sea water and the right to eat unlimited amounts of ice cream, but the main reason was always the opportunity to go rummaging at flea markets. What can't you find there! Over the years we've accumulated a lot of good stuff for ourselves and now we're going to give you some advice on how to use some old and seemingly useless thing in your modern home.

By the way, you don't always have to go to the market for that. You surely have something old at home that can no longer fulfill its original purpose, but in a new role it can do quite well.

OLD DISHES

You certainly know that feeling when you discover that a beautiful pitcher has a crack in it or your favorite mug has lost its handle. It's such a shame, isn't it! But you can very successfully use a mug as, for example, a pencil holder.

We had such a story where a red patterned cup, with which we started our days for many years, lost its handle. Now it works as a holder for makeup brushes and the joy from it will last for many more years.

Look around an old junk market with this perspective and see if you can find a nice milk pitcher. From it you can make a superb holder for pan lids, whisks and other kitchen utensils.

You can plant flowers or herbs in teapots (read from here which ones exactly). Drill a small hole in the bottom of the pitcher so the watering water can drain away.

Of course, you can always also simply use old dishes as decoration.

CHAIRS AND STOOLS

Every chair reaches a day when you can no longer sit on it. If a chair or stool can no longer bear a person's weight, it works great as a base for a flower pot.

If you're willing to saw the chair or stool legs a bit shorter, you can make the seats into bases for a large dog's food and water bowls. A good idea, right?

A beautiful old chair also works simply to decorate a room. For example, holding towels in a modern bathroom.

We visited a country house where old chair backs were used as wall decoration.

SUITCASES AND HAT BOXES

Old suitcases are wonderful storage places for holding just about anything. Books, old CDs, seasonal clothes, etc. Old worn suitcases are simply very decorative and they look especially good when you have a couple or three of them together.

The same applies to hat boxes. You can store all sorts of odds and ends in them that you don't want to throw away, but which usually should be hidden from view. For example, old postcards or maybe yarn balls.

OLD DOORS

You can do so many interesting things with old doors. If you have a larger room at home, you can use a door as wall decoration, for example. Or make a table from it.

Why not use an old door for its intended purpose and make your bathroom special with it?

By the way, you can also make a really cool bed headboard from an old door. Or attach it to the entrance wall as a hook base.
