Yesterday, Scandium Real Estate opened a history exhibition in Haapsalu depicting the Marienholm peninsula/Crimean Holm area. Crimean Holm has been a closed peninsula in the city of Haapsalu for decades. From now on, the restrictive gates have been removed and everyone interested has the opportunity to explore the peninsula on their own. Installed information boards tell the story of the holm's rich history and the new living environment that will emerge on the peninsula in the near future.

While exploring the exhibition, you can take a walk of nearly a kilometer along the elongated peninsula. In addition to the information boards at the beginning of the peninsula, you can find information plaques high up on the water tower and on the old barn building located at the tip of the peninsula. The peninsula itself and its 360-degree views of the sea and nearby skerries are attractions in their own right. The Läänemaa Museum had an important role in compiling the exhibition content. The historical materials were compiled by museum researcher Kadri Laur. Haapsalu City Council Chairman Jaanus Karilaid was also present at the opening.

The brightest moments in the peninsula's history were in the 1860s-1890s when a powerful harbor was located here. High-ranking guests arriving at the spa town of Haapsalu disembarked right here, after which they would spend restorative summer months in the beloved spa town. In the first half of 1900, the harbor's importance faded and a powerful fish processing plant was established here. In the 1990s, the fish factory closed its doors, and so did the gates to the entire peninsula.

In 2022, Scandium Real Estate, which had acquired the area, demolished dilapidated factory buildings. Construction waste was sorted and stones were formed into high embankments for future reuse in construction activities.

A modern living environment will be built on the Marienholm peninsula in the coming years, complete with public areas aimed at the public such as a small harbor, a swimming area, a pier for SUP boards, and a large park area.
