During the summer season, chasing the sun, we love spending a lot of time in country cottages. Cool evenings also call for a small living flame in the form of a bonfire. Here we share some wisdom that you should definitely follow!

Things to keep in mind:

1. If the bonfire diameter is larger than 1 meter, the bonfire must be at least 15 meters away from the building. If the bonfire diameter is up to 1 meter, the bonfire must be at least eight meters away.

2. During fire season, keep the bonfire at least 20 meters away from the forest. Fence off the bonfire area with stones or an earth bank.

3. Make sure sparks don't fall on the building. Don't leave the bonfire unattended and let it burn out completely or extinguish it with water.

4. Keep an appropriate fire extinguishing agent nearby, such as a bucket or watering can with 10 liters of water, a 6 kg fire extinguisher.

5. Bonfires may only be made from clean wood and paper. The latter should preferably be used for starting the fire.

6. Do not put household waste, packaging and similar items in the bonfire, as making waste fires damages our and our neighbors' yards, harms trees and bushes, and has a devastating effect on human health. When burning waste, a cocktail of toxic substances enters the air, the effects of which may not appear until later.

Remember that grilling also has its own requirements:

  • A balcony and terrace are also part of the building. Don't grill there.
  • Place the grill on a flat surface away from the building.
  • Grill with open flame (wood) at least five meters away from the building.
  • Grill with charcoal at least two meters away from the building.

The rules for bonfires and fire safety requirements must definitely be followed – violators can be fined up to 800 euros. In the case of a legal entity, the fine can be up to 3200 euros.

Safe bonfire making!
