When we start building our own home, we always carefully consider several different options so that our home turns out to be exactly as wonderful and perfect as we've dreamed. Unfortunately, however, we often need to think rationally and find the most sensible option.

We'll highlight two newer and quite rapidly gaining popularity alternatives to traditional flooring and review their strengths and weaknesses.

Concrete flooring…

…is very modern: if you google the phrase concrete floor design, you'll find incredibly cool solutions, and many design options ensure a unique end result.

…absorbs heat well, retains it, and releases it very slowly.

…requires little maintenance and is extremely easy to clean.

Floor tiles…

…are stronger than wooden flooring, meaning they're less susceptible to scratches and damage of any kind.

…are available in an endless selection, even with wood imitation.

…are risk-free: after an accident, you can simply replace only the tile that needs replacing.

Trendy flooring has some downsides compared to traditional options:

• if there is no underfloor heating and direct sunlight doesn't shine on them, then tiles are colder than wooden or carpeted floors
• there is a significant weight difference between stone flooring and wood, before installing stone flooring you need to do proper preliminary work and construct a solid foundation, this is not necessary with wooden flooring
• trends change, but wood is timeless

In conclusion, each person builds their home according to their own taste, but it's always interesting to know about different options. An unconventional choice might pleasantly surprise you if you just dare to step out of your comfort zone!
