Today, a jury of 132 independent international design experts announced winners in nine different categories of the iF Design Award. Roofit.Solar, a solar roof invented by Estonians, won in the product design category in the construction technology category. The competitive iF Design Award 2024 competition received 11,000 applications from 72 countries. Roofit.Solar claimed this prestigious award as the second Estonian company to do so. The winning work Roofit.Solar NuClick® is one of the best examples of an environmentally friendly building product that combines steel roofing and solar energy storage technology.

„We have integrated state-of-the-art solar energy storage technology into Nordic steel roofing, which is invisible to the eye. At first glance, it is an ordinary black, stylish roof, but in reality it produces sustainable 100% green energy. At the same time, all the advantages of metal roofing have been preserved: weather resistance, durability, and attractive appearance," said Andres Anijalg, one of the founders and CEO of Roofit.Solar.

Since buildings account for 36% of CO2 emissions, reducing the footprint of the construction sector is of paramount importance, and innovative environmentally friendly products are a great help in this regard. "To meet the European Union's climate goals, 250 million homes should be renovated by 2050. Since the carbon footprint of Roofit.Solar NuClick® solar roofing is 10% lower than conventional systems, we see great potential for this unique product in the world in moving towards a cleaner environment," said Anijalg.

Roofit.Solar exports 90% of the roofs produced in Estonia and they can be found on prestigious buildings throughout Europe. In Estonia, Roofit.Solar's roof can be found at the University of Tartu, the National Library, partially at the Seafarers' Hospital, and many other buildings.

Roofit.Solar's NuClick® new click-fastening roof is easier and faster to install compared to hand-fastened roofing. In many cases, Roofit.Solar's black steel roof is the only available solution for buildings under heritage protection, where preserving architectural style is crucial and standard solar panels are not permitted.

The world-renowned iF Design Award competition has been organized by Germany for the seventieth consecutive year and provides a platform for the world's leading brands, startups, designers, and creators to present themselves, stand out among competitors, and draw inspiration from each other. "We are very pleased with this award. It is a well-known award in our field, and winning it is a sign of high quality and a reliable product," added Anijalg.
