Estonia's largest real estate agency has appointed Argo Pillesson, the current head of the valuation department, as its new board chairman, replacing Jaanus Laugus who has led the company since 1997.

According to Uus Maa partner and outgoing board chairman Jaanus Laugus, he has completed 30 years at the company this year, during which a real estate agency consisting of 23 franchises and approximately 270 specialists was built up, and personally it was the right time to give the fresh and ambitious new leader an opportunity to take the company to the next level.

"Argo has demonstrated good business sense as a board member and head of the valuation department with more than 30 people, doubling the turnover of expert appraisals in four years, and has also proven himself to be a good leader of people, assembling a team at the highest level in the field," said Laugus.

"The handover of daily management did not happen in haste, but Argo and I have been preparing for this for over a year. I will continue in the company's board in a manner of speaking as the second violin – I am responsible for growing the franchise network and investment portfolio in Estonia, but I am stepping back from daily management," added Laugus.

According to Argo Pillesson, who joined Uus Maa in 2016, his goal is to double the company's turnover over the next five years, to consciously utilize the possibilities of artificial intelligence, and to strengthen the synergy and analytical capabilities of the nationwide franchise network.

"The rapid technological development of recent years will help make brokers' daily work and analyses more efficient in the future, but on the other hand, brokerage services will always remain people's business. I consider my analytical background to be my strength. I am actively working to systematically consolidate information and share it better within the company, thereby providing the entire Uus Maa network and thus also clients with maximally knowledge-based advice and a longer perspective," commented Pillesson.

Argo Pillesson holds a master's degree in land management and real estate planning from Estonian University of Life Sciences and has a level 7, the highest level, appraiser professional qualification.

Uus Maa is Estonia's largest real estate agency, which completed over 10,000 real estate appraisal and brokerage transactions in 2025.
