Domus Real Estate Developed Jaama 52 Applies for Tartu Building of the Year
For the 23rd time, everyone has the opportunity to participate in voting for Tartu's best building of the year and give their vote to their favorite building among new constructions and renovated buildings that received permits in 2024.
In total, there are 14 buildings to choose from – both new and renovated, including private houses, apartment buildings, and public buildings. Voting is open until June 23rd, and the people's favorite will be announced along with jury recognition in different categories on Tartu City Day, June 29th.
Among other worthy buildings, the former industrial building located at Jaama St. 52, named Almé Residentsid, is also nominated, which under the leadership of Domus Kinnisvara's development team has gained new life and a future.
The history of the building complex dates back to 1880, when Joseph Haubner's iron and machine factory was established on a nearby property. In 1892, Haubner also acquired the Jaama 52 property, and thanks to the factory's continuous expansion work, the Jaama 52 building achieved its distinctive trapezoidal facade by 1911, which has survived to this day and has now been renovated.
The architectural firm Ansambel has created a magnificent balance in the interplay of historical industrial architecture and contemporary functionalism, and shaped them into unique lofts, where 18 families have found their new home.
The construction work was a very significant challenge, especially from the perspective of preserving historical building components, but through the cooperation of Dorpat Construction, Domus Kinnisvara, and other companies' engineers, all issues have been resolved in a manner worthy of the year's best building title. "We have quite a bit of experience in restoring historical buildings. This process is always like a years-long headache that you forget as soon as the building is finished," comments Domus Kinnisvara development manager Ingvar Allekand with a smile.
