4 Cool Summer House Projects
In summer, Estonians are known to do renovations or build. And we think there's nothing wrong with that. How else can our home become comfortable and beautiful? Today we'll review four major summer cottage projects, from which you can choose your favorite. Once you've completed it, the last summer months in your countryside home will be especially enjoyable.
All projects are related to spending time outdoors or in the garden, so we're hoping for beautiful summer weather, aren't we!
1. Outdoor Bathroom
Anyone who has been to the tropics and enjoyed bathing in the fresh air among lush plants in an outdoor shower knows what we're talking about. A bathroom outside the house walls can also suit our climate. We have quite a few months when bathing or showering in fresh air isn't an extreme sport. After a summer sauna or with a warm bath, your family and guests will be especially grateful that you took on this project.
Find a pleasant breezy spot for the outdoor bathroom and think everything through so that water doesn't have to come from too far away. All sorts of unpleasant things can happen with pipes in winter, so investigate how to solve this most sensibly. You can get some tips from this blog.
And a bathtub outside by the fence or in some other shady and tree-covered place is an especially pleasant thing. You can get hot water from the sauna, for example.
2. Garden House
A small garden house quickly becomes the favorite of children and yourself. One option is to make it a summer children's quarters with a bunk, two metal beds, or a large mattress that fits many little ones, or some other solution that you can come up with together with your children.
If you don't have children in your family or they're not interested in such a house at all, you can create a cozy retreat for yourself where you can hide away with a book.
Have a small wooden house made or buy it ready-made, which needs to fit no more than one soft sofa or armchair, a small shelf and a table. Books and old interior design magazines go on the shelf, a glass of wine on the table. You can get many decorating ideas from this post.
Now comes one especially good idea that we almost didn't want to tell anyone else about, but we'll tell you. If your summer cottage has a glass greenhouse that's in perfect working order, but which you no longer use for growing tomatoes, then we truly envy you. This can be turned into a wonderful summer garden house.
Or even better – if the greenhouse is large enough, it can fit both some tomato plants and an old armchair.
3. Outdoor Kitchen
An outdoor kitchen is a larger project if you want to do it properly. Well, at least so that there's a stove and an oven, some shelves and storage spaces. Think for example of an outdoor kitchen laid with natural stone and making strawberry jam there!
There are many kitchen solutions and you probably already have several ideas that are just waiting to be realized in your summer cottage. This summer is the right time to take them on.
4. Roofed Dining Area
Have you watched some Italian film where a large family eats in a fruit garden at a long table at dusk? That's exactly what we have in mind. In our climate, however, you can never be sure, so we suggested a roof.

The roof could be made of light-transmitting material and be large enough to fit a very long dining table underneath, where about ten people can sit around. Maybe you got such a table with your cottage? If not, you can buy one or have one made.
